Summer Camps and State Fairs

So I've been crazy busy lately with bits of freelance and a summer teaching job for the All Arts, Sciences and Technologies camp, but I finally got a few minutes to relax and update the old blog. Professor Becky suggested that I share some of the animations my students did and I thought it was a great idea, so here are a few.
The age range was 11-15 and they had a total of 3 and a half hours to work on them.

Also, if anyone happens to be going to the Texas State Fair, you should check out the Illumination Sensation and look for the 2 minute "Old Days" piece. (That's mah baby!)

The start of a new short film is to come in the very near future from myself and the purely awesome KK Nixon.
I'll let you know as soon as there's more to share.

Drag'N'Fly

So the Drag'N'Fly short film has been passed along to the effects team and I'm on board currently helping with look development and environment modeling. To see where the project currently stands, you can check out the blog here.

Here are some samples of what I've been helping with:

This is the Roy paintwork development I did (the characters were designed and modeled by someone else in a previous quarter). Another pitch was chosen for the final look, however my work was picked for Sushi the fish (:D):

The final film's going to be amazing, so you should keep an eye on it. :)

More Progress

I'm at the point where I'm doing the last touches on the sculpting of the character so I can go ahead and start texturing here. Here's where she's at so far! :)

Project Progress

So, the modeling of the first character in my short film is very near completion. While I finish up the few remaining accessories, my buddy Malcolm Ross has started up the rigging for me and Lee Jones has started texturing. Thanks to their help, I can go ahead and start concept work on the old lady. I need to have her design finalized and the modeling begun by Monday (latest). Pics soon!

In the meantime, I finalized the concept design on another character for a class focusing on ZBrush. Her tittle is Daughter Nature, and she takes care of the creation (and occasionally destruction) of all the smaller things in the forest (such as flowers, butterflies, etc.). Here's the final color concept:

The startup of a film!

I'm about to start executing my first short film! Most of the pre viz stuff has been done and there's only a few things left before I put this into action. I still need to finalize my environment designs with a distinct style that matches the characters and see if there's anything else to change or tweak before going into action. The film will be in 3D made primarily in Maya with some Houdini effects as necessary. For now, thats all you get to know!

Final character design by Michael C. Hicks.

Also, thanks to the amazing Lee Jones, I have a website now!
